Inside the EV Market: February 2026

Government Boosts EV Charging Grants for 2026-2027

The UK government has announced a significant increase in EV charging grants, now covering nearly 50% of installation costs (up to £500) for renters, flat owners, and businesses.

Maximum Savings: Grant amounts have increased by over 40%, capped at £500 per charge point.

Expanded Eligibility: Available to flat owners, landlords, renters, homeowners without driveways, and businesses.

Lower Running Costs: Home charging can reduce fuel costs to as little as 2p per mile, saving drivers up to £1,400 annually compared to petrol cars.

Extended Deadline: This final uplift is available until March 2027.

By simplifying the grant system and subsidising upfront costs, the government aims to make electric vehicle ownership more accessible for those without traditional driveways and help businesses transition their fleets.

Renault Twingo E-Tech Makes Its UK Debut

Renault’s iconic city car is back in electric form. The Twingo E-Tech has officially arrived for its UK premiere at Renault’s new "rnlt" concept store, located on Electric Boulevard at Battersea Power Station.

The Twingo E-Tech joins the Renault 4 and Renault 5 in the brand's growing all-electric lineup. Designed specifically for urban environments, this new generation combines the "playful" DNA of the original 1990s Twingo with modern smart technology.

Location: Visitors can view the car at rnlt London Battersea, an immersive retail space designed for a relaxed shopping experience. Renault aims to prove that electric driving can be both stylish and practical for city dwellers.

"There’s no better place for its UK debut than rnlt London Battersea... this new generation is set to follow in the cult footsteps of the original Twingo." - David Isherwood, Renault UK Marketing Director

The Twingo E-Tech marks a turning point for Renault’s electric lineup and the broader industry: EVs are finally moving beyond luxury SUVs and premium price tags.

By prioritising affordability and practicality, Renault is signalling a new era for both private drivers and commercial fleets. The Twingo proves that the future of electric mobility is built for everyday urban life.
