We have an exciting opportunity for a Operations Manager to join our Wakefield site. You will be responsible for leading the yard team and ensuring the smooth running of our auctions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be responsible for all vehicles on site, their movement and actions undertaken in relation to them while on site.
  • Lead the yard operations team.
  • Meet and exceed financial and operational metrics.
  • Promote exceptional levels of service throughout the site.
  • Champion continuous improvement throughout the site.
  • Enforce & promote safety within the workplace.

Duties include:

  • Take a proprietorial approach to all vehicles on site, always seeking to balance site profitability with exceptional customer service.
  • Lead the yard team in all yard operations, balancing productivity with exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure exceptional site standards and housekeeping are upheld.
  • Highlight and action or escalate potential process failures prior to any drop in service levels.
  • Attend and contribute at monthly and weekly site management meetings.
  • Produce quality management information within set timescales
  • Develop continuous improvement mindset in the yard and update processes to ensure consistent process compliance.
  • Support all site projects as required.
  • Provide visible, respectful leadership to the yard operations team and be the technical expert for direct reports.
  • Manage direct reports to achieve agreed outputs.
  • Report all vehicle defects in a timely manner.
  • Fuel vehicles in accordance with training provided.
  • Ensure that vehicles are prepared for sales in line with the documented process.
  • Review vehicles for reconditioning opportunities.
  • Embed KPI’s to manage performance across team, including the number of not inspected vehicles and the inspection process as a whole.
  • Ensure that the pre-sale line up is appropriate, with all vehicles correctly lotted and displayed.
  • Be responsible for end to end car processing.
  • Ensure the effective running of sales.
  • Check mechanical condition of vehicles.
  • Ensure all employees with the department have PDR’s and monthly 1:2:1’s which have structure giving SMART objectives throughout.
  • Utilise performance management processes to ensure success is celebrated and enhanced and poor performance is dealt with in the correct process.
  • Develop succession plans for high performing team members.
  • Support the business to deliver key training for all relevant modules.
  • Meet and exceed all financial metrics set.
  • Identify and act on any failures to meet metrics.
  • Identify and as appropriate act on opportunities for additional revenue.
  • Identify and as appropriate act on areas for cost out/down.
  • Carry out daily monitoring of site KPI’s - highlighting pressure areas and providing suggested solutions including; Collection/Delivery performance.
  • Monitor Stock Management, Days to Inspect, Losses etc.
  • Ensure site adherence to group HSEQ & Compliance policies and procedures.
  • Promote a positive H&S mindset across all areas of the site.
  • Continually seek to improve the department by working in a cycle of continuous improvement.

Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience in yard/operations management or a similar role.
  • Proven ability and experience of managing a complex, fast paced operations function.
  • Automotive industry experience – preferred but not essential.
  • Established experience in effective problem solving and decision making.
  • Ability to manage, coach, mentor and develop people.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills.
  • Experience of producing high quality information to deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing HSEQ & Compliance standards and processes.
  • Proven experience of delivering exceptional service to customers both personally and through a team.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Full UK Driving License,

40 hours per week, 5 out of 6 days Monday to Saturday with shift patterns between the hours of 07.30am - 7.00pm.
