Transport First Line Manager (FLM)

The Control Centre is a centralised business function here at Aston Barclay. It controls the transportation network and supports both domestic and commercial/vendor movements across UK. The team is responsible for planning and scheduling HGV and trade plate drivers to be placed at each of our auction sites across the UK, based on various factors such as forecast, historical trends, vehicles capacity and carrier capabilities. The Control Tower plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of Aston Barclays Group Logistics transportation network and thereby has direct impact on the Group ability to serve customers on time.

The Transport First Line Manager will be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the control tower operation. Key duties include:

  • Proactively monitor and manage a busy network of HGV and plate drivers
  • Liaise with subcontractors and site logistics operations teams to execute network plan
  • Provide event management at all stages like vehicle breakdowns, traffic situation, issues at customer sites
  • Proactively provide regular network updates
  • Achieving and exceeding KPI’s,
  • Investigate and conduct root cause analysis on variation of planned v actual plans
  • Investigate customer complaints
  • Report, investigate and follow up on accident/incidents
  • Use established procedures to solve problems, using own judgement and expertise
  • Provide accurate routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated
  • Execute new processes based on monthly performance trends
  • Communicate with drivers, subcontractors, managers & key personnel (on site and on the phone)
  • Support project work around logistics function
  • Effectively manages time and resource

Skills and Attributes:

  • Knowledge of EU and WTD regulations
  • Experience of Transport Management systems
  • Able to work well with a wide team, all with different priorities and minimum supervision
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • The ability to adapt quickly to new scenarios
  • Experience working a logistics environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong eye for detail
  • Good organisation skills
  • Excellent geographic knowledge of the UK
  • CPC advantageous but not essential
  • FORS/CLOCS Knowledge but not essential
  • Experience in a Control Tower Operations but not essential

Working hours are either 7am -3pm or 10am-7pm Monday to Friday.
